Rumpke is the current trash provider, but the City of Monroe is the billing agent for the trash and recycling pick-up. The monthly trash rate is $13.50.
Trash pick up is determined by the street you live on. Click here for a complete schedule. As a reminder, no person shall place containers of trash, garbage, waste, rubbish, refuse, or any other material on the tree lawn or curb for collection before 5:00 pm on the day prior to collection. All containers shall be removed from the tree lawn or curb area by 6:00 am on the morning following collection. Refuse containers shall not be stored in any portion of the front yard.
Rumpke rents the large trash wheeled toter to residents for $2.50 a month. (This is not mandatory, as you can use your own trash containers or bags). They will bill you separately for the trash toter and they bill quarterly. You can contact them directly at 513-742-2900. You will also need to contact Rumpke if you have any questions about specific items that you need picked up.
They also have recycling containers-there are two different sizes of recycling containers. There is a small bin without a lid, or a large wheeled toter with a lid. You can contact Rumpke and let them know what size recycling container you would like. Also, make sure you specify that it is a recycling container, as the recycling program is free.
If your trash was missed, please contact the City of Monroe at 513-539-7374 ext. 1000. We will log the missed trash and contact Rumpke. If they are still in the area, they will pick up the missed trash the same day. If they have left the area, ususally they will pick up the missed trash within the next 24 hours. The exception to this is on weekends and/or holidays.
There are only 2 days that Rumpke will not pick up trash:  Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. If your normal scheduled trash pick-up is on either of these holidays, trash pick-up will be picked up the next day.
Twice a year, as determined by City Council, Rumpke will pick up large items (items that normally would not be picked up on regular trash pick-ups). They are always on a Saturday, and they are usually in the Spring and Fall.
