I currently work in the Pastoral Care Department at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center as a chaplain serving the Bone Marrow Transplant unit and as a supervisory educator to the hospital’s Clinical Pastoral Education program. I am a Board Certified Chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains and endorsed and ordained by the Church of God. I attend and serve at Stratford Heights Church of God in Middletown. My most recent professional accomplishment was my doctorate in 2005 in the area of chaplaincy ministries. My hobbies have been any kind of sports but I am concentrating now on marathons and triathlons. I look forward to serving the Police Department and the community of Monroe. |
Mecklem, Duane - Police Chaplain. I was born and raised inrural western Pennsylvania. I attended Cincinnati Christian University, where I graduated in 1971, and where I also received a Master of Arts degree in 1987 and a Master of Ministry degree in 1988. For 37 years I have ministered in Churches of Christ and Christian Churches in central and southern Ohio. Since 2003 I have ministered here in Monroe at the LifeWay Christian Church, 780 Lebanon Street. I have served as a volunteer chaplain for the Smith Township Fire Department in Centerville, Ohio (1978-79), for Madison County Hospital in London, Ohio (1982-85), and for Middletown Hospital/Atrium Medical Center (2007-present). Having once been an EMT, I am aware of the pressures that “first responders” sometimes experience and the long-term effects of that stress. I simply want to be there for our policemen and policewomen, to assist them and the public in difficult situations when calm and counsel may be needed. Personal message: The Bible tells us that law enforcement officials who do their job well are doing the Lord’s work (see Romans 13:1-6). Let us respect them and appreciate them for how they improve our community. |
