Butler County Environmental Services own and maintain the sewer system for the City of Monroe. They also set the sewer rates. Sewer rates are charged on the number of gallons of water consumed. Summer Sewer Credit
Butler County Environmental Services has instituted a summer sewer credit for usage in the months of June, July, and August. For residential customers, there are allowances for water not discharged to the sewer system. The charge for sewer service is based on the volume of water delivered to the customer. Since water used for lawn sprinkling, car washing, filling pools, etc., does not normally enter the sewer system, it is considered appropriate and reasonable to make certain allowances for these non-sewage volumes. During summer months sewer bills will be based on the average water usage during the four-month winter time period. If you are a new customer and do not have a winter history, you will not be billed for more than 6000 gallons of sewer for usage during the months of June, July, and August. You may have a second meter installed at your expense, which will measure outside water separately for all other months.
