NEW DRUG DROP BOX !!

Drug Drop Box Program

Monroe Police are keeping unused prescription drugs off the street and out of the wrong hands with a tool as easy as a box. In coordination with the Federal Government and their Drug Enforcement Agency, we have installed a Drug Drop Off Box in the lobby of the police station. If you have over-the-counter medications that you no longer need, you can bring them to Monroe Police for safe disposal 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.

This gives the citizens an opportunity to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs. It also addresses the community concerns about safely disposing the medications. Unused medications pose a risk to families, communities and the environment. Insecurely stored, they may be stolen or mistakenly consumed by family members or house guests. If they are dumped down the drain or thrown into the trash, drugs can contaminate ground water and the environment. Once collected, officers will have the drugs incinerated in a certified process that eliminates risks to the community.

Prescription drugs can only be possessed by the patient or law enforcement. Controlled substances, such as narcotics, are drugs with a high potential for abuse and cannot be accepted by pharmacies for disposal. Examples of controlled substances are amphetamines, Valium, Ritalin, morphine, methadone and oxycodone.  We will not accept syringes, inhalers, liquids unless they are sealed, thermometers, hydrogen peroxide, ointment or lotions.

Returning unwanted medications makes your home safer. Return unwanted medicines for free and safe disposal.
