Sanitary Sewer

Sanitary sewer refers to any water that goes down into the drains inside the home.   The Butler County Water & Sewer Department (BCWS) owns and maintains the sanitary sewer system for the City of Monroe.  BCWS also sets the sewer rates that are used to bill for sanitary sewage.  The amount of sewage billed is based on the gallons of metered water usage.

Summer Sewer Credit

The Butler County Water & Sewer Department has instituted a summer sewer credit for usage in the months of June, July, August, September, and October as an allowance for water that is not discharged into the sewer system.

Since water used for outdoor activities such as lawn sprinkling, car washing, and pool filling does not flow into the sewer system, it is considered appropriate and reasonable to make certain allowances for these non-sewage volumes.
