Water Shut Offs
Your water service may be shut off for any of the following reasons:
Delinquency
Utility accounts that are 15 days past due could be eligible for water service disconnection. The City will notify the resident and/or property with a notation on the utility bill that there is a past due balance and the account is subject to disconnection. Accounts that are shut off for delinquency shall be charged applicable charges for trips made to turn water off and back on.
Water Main Breaks
The City reserves the right to shut off the water supply without notice in cases of accidents or causes beyond its control, or for making repairs, connections or equipment replacements. The City shall not be held responsible for any consequences that are a result of water being shut off for these reasons. The City will do its best to give notice, so far as is practical, of any water shut off. However, the City is not bound to give such notice, particularly when circumstances are unforeseen. The City will not be responsible for any water damage or for the loss of water on account of fixtures being left open when water is restored.
Improper Installation / Failed Inspection
The City reserves the right to suspend water service or refuse the right of water service to any property which is deemed to have improper application or installation of City water meter/equipment specifications. Accounts that are shut off for improper application, installation, or failed inspection shall be charged applicable trip charges.
Lack of Meter Access
If access to an inside meter for meter maintenance or repairs is not made within a reasonable period of time, the water service may be suspended until access to the meter is provided. Accounts that are shut off for lack of meter access shall be charged applicable trip charges.
Delayed Leak Repair
Whenever a leak or break occurs in a service line, it is the customer's responsibility to have it repaired in a timely manner. If the customer refuses to repair the leak or break, or if water is permitted to flow unnecessarily due to negligence, the City may disconnect the supply of water until the necessary repairs have been made. Accounts that are shut off as a result of a leak shall be charged applicable trip charges.
Broken Meters / Meter Tampering
If the City finds that a meter has been broken or finds evidence that the meter or seal has been tampered with, the water shall be shut off at the curb and shall not be turned on again until the customer pays for the estimated quantity of water that has been used and not registered, plus the cost to restore the meter to proper working order and any other necessary expenses. Additionally, the customer may be subject to prosecution and penalties related to meter tampering. Accounts that are shut off as a result of broken or tampered with meters shall be charged applicable trip charges.
Public Safety
The City reserves the right to shut off the water supply for emergencies or health and safety violations that have occurred that threaten water quality.
